Lightning – External Protection
The function of an external lightning protection system is to intercept, conduct and discharge a lighting strike safely to earth. This can be achieved via early warning systems, air terminals and earthing. We offer solutions as per IEC/BS EN 62305.
ASTORM®s by Aplicaciones Tecnologicas is an expert local early warning system for risk prevention against lightning storms. The ATSTORM® system monitors both the electrostatic field and the electromagnetic field – able to detect both the electrical storms that approach the area to be protected, as well as those that are forming above it. Adheres to standard IEC 62793
The ability to monitor all phases of a storm, from cloud electrification through to its dissipation, makes ATSTORM® a complete advanced data system, which alerts to initiate preventive actions that minimize the risks caused by lightning impacts
Benefits of ATSTORM®
Lightning/Air Rod is an essential piece of the lightning protection system. It is the point of controlled impact of a discharge so as to provide the lighting current a path to ground without damaging the protected structure.
Aplicaciones Tecnológicas ESE (Early Streamer Emission) Terminal is a technologically advanced air rod that is characterised by emitting a continuous upward leader, before any other object within their protection radius. It guarantees best operational efficiencies and passed/exceeded all the applicable test standards
AT- Remote Tester, a device that allows the daily auto diagnosis of the ESE air terminal without the need to disassemble the terminal or the requirement of any means of auxiliary elevation or physical inspection. The result of the auto test is sent by M2M communication to a receptor – phone, tablet, computer. The information can also be viewed on the website along with other personalised notifications, making the appropriate preventive and corrective maintenance much easier. Conformity with 1995/CE R&TTE Radiocommunications and Telecommunications terminal equipment, standards EN 60950:2006, EN 301 489-1: 2011. EN 301 489-7:2011
It is a device to be installed on the down-conductor, usually above the guard tube. It automatically counts the strikes received by the lightning protection system. It’s sturdy and autonomous – however it’s advisable to periodically check and for maintenance requirements if any.
Standard Air Rods including accessories in compliance to IEC 62305, IEC 62561 are also available, as these are still widely used.
Down conductors should provide several paths to distribute the lighting current. The length of the current paths to the earthing system should be as short and direct as possible.
Selection of the correct type of conductor is very important and it’s on this basis that the designer designs the complete earthing system. We offer a comprehensive range of copper, aluminium and bi-metal conductors – both bare and coated. Conductors complies with UNE 21186, NFC 17-102, IEC 62305, IEC 62561 and are available as below.
Conductor guards are available to protect against vandalism and theft, on request.
Considering availability of various types of conductor(s) and possible route – accessories are available in various configurations like Tape Buckle Clip, DC Tape Clip, B Bond, Metal Tape Clip, Tape Clip, Nava Brass Clip, Square Tape Clamps, T-Clamps, Straight Clamp, Universal clamp, Universal Disconnecting Clamp, Test Clamp, Test Joint, Spark Gap for Aerial Mast, Puddle Flange, Bi-Metallic Connector, Denso tape, Anti-Corrosion Spray etc.
Earthing
Earthing termination system is essential for lightning protection, since lightning current should disperse there. Each down-conductor must have an earthing system, formed by conductive elements in contact with the soil to disperse the lightning current in it. As per the standards the resistance of the LPS should be lower than 10Ω. Triangle or goose-foot configurations are suitable for a good lightning current dispersion. A low earth resistance is essential for obtaining an efficient earthing.
Earthing material basically consists of the following:
They enable the down conductor of the lighting protection system to disconnect from the earth electrode in order to correctly measure the earth resistance.
Equipotential earth bars are an efficient and convenient way of providing a common earth point, and integral disconnecting links that allows easy isolation for testing purpose. It enables connection of various cables or round conductors with tin-plated copper connection terminals carried out using 50 x 5 mm tape. Its available in variety of lengths with M10 termination screws.
It’s used to connect cable with screw-nut connections. It’s available for conduct size 6mm² to 240mm² with varied screw size(s). Complies to IEC 62305, IEC 62561
Exothermic Welding
It’s an efficient and economical method of making large or small numbers of high-quality electrical connections. The process uses the high temperature reaction of copper oxide and aluminium, with a semi-permanent graphite mould to form electrical connections mainly between – cable to cable; cable to bar and bar to bar in T or Cross formation. Moulds are available in various sizes to accommodate different size of cables and bars.
This consists of weld powders, moulds, handle clamp, cable & tape cleaning brush, mould cleaning scrapper, flint gun, butane torch, Duxseal sealing compound, Copper sleeves and ceramic packing.
This system offered by Aplicaciones Tecnologicas replaces the conventional weld powders and their manual spark activation with a tablet compound shape that is activated remotely using an electronic starter. The advantages are as below:
